IR TV Review: NAUTILUS - EPISODE 6 (“The Big Blue”)[AMC]

The stark essence of the last shot of Episode 5 added an interesting perspective of what might happen as this series progresses. As Episode 6 of "Nautilus" begins in essence of its title: "The Big Blue", the looming behemoth of the Ring Of Fire as well as well the malady that seemed to befall the crew seems to have disappeared. In a way it takes away from the intensity and the sacrifice of what was being shown. The actual reasoning and explanation of what they experienced seems to fall away a little bit which in a way lessens its impact. Lady Lucas has her "Abyss" moment and its inspiration seems to come directly from that movie but with a 19th century spin. But for a new generation, there is nothing wrong with that. This episode though is more Thierry Fremont. His Gustave is always the perspective of wonder and exploration and the throttle of this episode has to do with his goal and passion, fulfilled or not.

The focus it finds is again another new unique arena (this one with some new creatures) but this one has its throwback to "Aliens". The great thing about this series is that it pays tribute to some of the best while reimagining an old story. The only aspect here is some of the MacGuffin plot holes which sometimes get thrown to the side only to be picked up later. On the Dreadnought, the push for information and who is controlling the narrative is becoming less and less clear...and yet the Nautilus seems no closer...even with a would-be saboteur on board. Nemo himself sees both his empathy and hardness of heart come in conflict again but his chemistry with Lady Lucas might be his undoing...and both her triumph and sorrow. As the episode draws to a close it is both about reflection but also the road taken and if it was worth its distractions in the final journey. B
