IR TV Review: NAUTILUS - EPISODE 4 (“Slippery When Wet”)[AMC]
The essence of discovery is based on the idea of who is being hunted. With Episode 4 of "Nautilus" entitled "Slippery When Wet", it enters more of a context of "Pirates Of The Caribbean" where people's true ideas come out. Nemo has had his guard up for so long that he creates an odd context of trust. After losing both supplies and intention, his actions of sacrifice are becoming more brazen in a good way. The believability is pushing the boundary but the creativity of what is being shown is interesting. His crew is starting to trust him although his ultimate goal is still a bit fuzzy. The Dreadnought with an unhinged admiral is hot on their trail but his MO is different from Nemo. This episode takes place mostly on a island and the idea is that around every corner is danger.
What is interesting is that the story mixes the intention up (in a good way) in building up characters but also suddenly taking them away which provides a mystery to the proceedings. There for example is a band of men on the island which have a specific way of surviving. The reason for their continued life is suspect because one does not get a sense of what is really at play or if it is simply the mythology of a monster. The progression is becoming less like Jules Verne and more in a way like Odysseus. Lady Lucas is becoming more likable as is her handmaiden of sorts but everyone has their own hang-ups as is revealed as the episodes progress forward. The episode has its own context of action mixing it up (like in the last episode on a different island) because it shows that every episode has a different danger. The question just becomes which one is going to be the most tricky to survive. B+
