IR TV Review: LUCKY - EPISODE 6 (“Wherever You Go There You Are”) [Apple TV]

Playing Lucky is all about choices. Lucky herself as she is coming into episode 6 right before the season finale is trying to find the right angle. John (played with uncanny smarminess by Timothy Olyphant) is in the gray with Lucky and yet he keeps trying to manipulate his daughter. What is cool here especially in a few hotel scenes is how much history these two actors convey in hurt with just some looks. Anya Taylor-Joy conveys a lot here without saying a whole ton but this is the most nuanced she has been though most of the other franchise worlds have been very specific.

The costumes she wears throughout the series are great. Another great moment has her in a discussion with Annette Bening’s Priscilla telling her she will eventually be where she is which is a real interesting meta statement. This is the most like Victoria Hill Bening has played in a long while with the use of her deep gravely voice which she doesn’t always use adding to it. Olyphant also faces off in a war of words with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor’s FBI Agent Rand. That is telling as well. For the small amount of action in this episode, its character beats are the most cohesive in a way. However they have to be concrete in a way for the stakes to be held in the season finale. 83%./B
