IR TV Review: LUCKY - EPISODE 3 [Apple TV]

At the end of the last episode, Lucky and Dutch had their quips in a row before she snuck under a tarp as he made his way back somewhere. Episode 3 of "Lucky" picks up the next day in some stables. Lucky is still wearing the "Cancer Sucks" tv shirt she got in the desert. Her father has sage reason when he finally talks to her but he knows how not to get caught and yet he is the one twiddling his thumbs in jail. This episode really takes advantage of Joy’s chameleon-type quality. She thinks on her feet from the moment she leaves a perilous situation. Her moral qualms are out the window but you see some glimmer of understanding of what line she is crossing...but it won’t stop her. She has been raised like this.

This survival is in Joy's blood though there is probably some part of her that wishes that wasn't the case. She knows how to find marks and doesn’t worry about using them. Now granted certain things are left by the wayside like cctv cameras at certain places and not in others as well as the possibility of certain GPS trackers (and not of others). That said some leniency can be given narratively because this is supposed to be a crime caper. Lucky tracks down what she needs but some of it is luck. But she is a woman scorned so sometimes emotion takes over. And for all Lucky's intelligence, she did let her guard down. The question is why did she let what happened happen? And could she have prevented it. B+
